Goals'N'Ghosts2021

So, before the old board got sucked up by the great void, we had threads with lose goals and plans for the year, dating back at least 5 years, maybe one or two more and it was fun to occasionally revisit those threads along the year and see where everyone was, what they did so far.

I want to resurrect those threads and I just found that I had made a screenshot of my plans and thoughts for this years, so here it is again:
Image

Current status: Doing good on the 1h reading per day (I do not read a single book cover to cover but jump around between different books every day, whatever I'm in the mood for, so far I've been reading about medieval weapons and armor, siege engines, finances(want to look into getting stocks) and mostly music theory).

Physical activity is also good, although I tend to slack a bit, working out once a week on average instead of every 2nd to 3rd day. This week I extended my home "gym" (which was just an old barbell and a dumbbell) with a set of two 15-kg dumbbells and a cheap "stepper"-thingamagik from China (the manual that came with it went on and on about how to use the "Kitchen Mixer" which was hilarious).

My AgeOfEmpiresIIDE elo is still ~900 but I recently finally started streaming some of my games on twitch and want to keep doing that.

Current pet project is learning to play piano (got me an Alesis Recital Pro with authentic hammer action keys) and for about a month now, I've been practicing all kinds of scales everyday.

Visual creativity is kinda sleeping.

One the games playing/played front I made no progress at all, just been playing AOE2DE and COD:Warzone.

I may as well reassess my situation now that we're a few months in. I've already gotten a good start on one of my goals (writing an FM synth). I'm still in a little bit of a slump right now.

Things seem pretty good so far, but I have to keep moving or else I'll get bogged down with random stuff and not get anything substantial accomplished.

So far I've:
- Worked with the mods and gotten GDR rebooted. Still much work remains there, but here we are at least.
- Completed the first two phases of my home theater renovation. Final phase is replacing my old furniture.
- Nearly completed Far Afield. Things look great on that end.
- Got a great start on FML. I need to button up the AM section and look at FM synthesis next.
- Am getting comfy with Raylib. Once I finish Far Afield I would like to try porting it to Raylib.

Things that need attention:
- Still working on getting back into proper exercise habits.
- Need to get back into habit of reading during lunch breaks.
- Backyard renovation still on hold (slacking FTW).
- Working on family stuff in the wake of all that 2020 shit. Yeesh.
- Finishing modifications of GDR software. HTTPS, formatting, emoticons, etc.

Well, well. I feel like I have not accomplished much this year. Certainly none of the things on my list. I started a custom Arduino mouse project that I have yet to finish (got interrupted by home renovation works which dragged on longer than expected). Mind is kinda all over the place and the pile of unplayed games only grew higher.

Oof! Same... except I seem to be missing a list, oops!

On the plus, my company (Interactive Snacks) was profitable...though that was in part because I didn't start paying myself until later in the year. I'm still somewhat overwhelmed by everything you need to do to run a corporation. Life was simpler with a Sole Proprietorship.

Got a lot done last year, but the signal:noise ratio made it difficult to stay focused on stuff, or feel like anything was getting done.

Good stuff:
- 4x4x4 off to a good start. And I've managed to produce entries for all three events that year. And the random selection site is up too.
- New GDR site hasn't spontaneously burst into flames, or FrozenEmu'd itself into oblivion. Yet.
- Raylib is good shit, and I'm pretty comfy with it.
- Far Afield is in a very good state right now. Probably the best game I've ever made, in various (non-technical) regards.
- My understanding of 3D is much better. Not where it needs to be, but I've made some first steps and can see things coming together.
- My understanding of sound is much better. My work on the AM synth was fantastic experience, and I enjoyed it immensely.
- Home Theater renovation went well. Still missing a couch tho ;)
- I'm seriously contemplating early retirement. May do some consulting, given what knowledge I've accumulated.

Meh:
- Work fucked my entire universe Nov/Dec. Those months just didn't seen to exist, other than work.
- Started working out again right around October, so this didn't follow into Nov/Dec. See above.
- I still have some messy projects ahead of me (professionally speaking).
