So, that happened

Post by Sirocco »

Late last week our host had a derp moment, and the board stopped working. The team stepped in and tried to fix things. Well... ok, we sorta kinda did with varying degrees of non-success. So here we are. We all have to register again.

Mea culpa, and such things.

We've decided to start fresh, and move to a new database and fresh board install... you know, one that's not fifteen years out of date. Much love to Bean for keeping the site kicking for so long, and Mandrake before him, and FrozenEmu before that, and if we really want to tie things back to the past, Tsugumo before that. If you've been around here since the days of TheCow, it means you've already gone through this a dozen times, so the ~16 years we've been rocking has been quite the pleasant anomaly.

The upshot is we get a fresh, shiny board, our hilariously huge post counts finally get reset, and we're going to kick things off with new challenges and community events, because I'm slightly less lazy than I was back in 2005. Also things like media embedding should be slightly more robust. The same admin/mod team is present, so no changes there. We've moved the development logs to their own board so they get better visibility, and will be establishing something similar for board members who have finished projects (as we sort of attempted before).

Welcome back to the GDR. Here's to another decade and a half of pushing pixels.

I'm embarrassed to say that the sign-up question had me stumped for a hot minute.

That's my fault. I was getting annoyed by all the spambots and their shenanigans (i.e. you can silently spam a forum by creating an account and setting your signature).

There's a few valid answers, but if anyone needs a hint, one of the standards comes from the Khronos group. Comically, this standard AND the Khronos group's name are Star Trek references. Do note the spellings are slightly different than Star Trek, for legal reasons.
